A Zebra Mussel Found In Pelican Lake

Minnesota state biologists say a worker removing a dock at Pelican Lake has found a single zebra mussel but it was too small to reproduce.  Biologists say they haven't found any other zebra mussels and haven't designated the lake as infested.

Pine River Man Retires with Honors from N.D Guard

(AP)  A Pine River High School graduate was honored in Fargo last night. 

Alan Peterson, who currently resides in West Fargo, was honored at the Fargo Armed Reserve Center.
Peterson is retiring from the North Dakota National Guard.  The Master Sgt is the last veteran from the unit to have served in Vietnam. 

Peterson joined the navy in 1970 and served on an air craft carrier off the coast of Vietnam.

Peterson has also served on missions to Iraq, The Honduras, Korea, Jamaica and Panama.

Accident Kills Two from Walker

(AP)  An elderly couple from Walker has died in a two vehicle accident south of town on Highway 371.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 93-year-old Beulahm Hendricks and 86-year-old Mary Isakson were killed when their car was struck broadside by an SUV Monday night.

A couple from Walker and three children in the SUV were uninjured.

The patrol says the driver of the car went through a stop side at an intersection was it was hit.

Mills Fleet Farms Reconsiders Ban on Bell Ringing

Salvation Army bell ringers will be allowed at Mills Fleet Farm locations throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and Iowa afterall. 

Mills Fleet Farm execuitves called their earlier decision to ban bell ringers at their locations and instead give donations to the group "wrong," in a statement Tuesday evening. 

They did not refer to the reason for their change of heart, but will allow the Salvation Army bell ringers this holiday season.

Mills Fleet Farm's headquarters are in Brainerd, and they serve several states.

Suspects Disappear Into Beltrami Co. Woods

(AP)  Despite the use of some high-tech equipment, a pair of desperadoes escaped from the long arm of the law near Bemidji just before midnight Monday.

The State Patrol used a helicopter and thermal imaging to spot two suspects in the woods of Beltrami County. 

Lawmen received a report of gunshots fired at a home in Turtle River.  Responding officers gave chase to a speeding vehicle.  Stops sticks force the car off the road, and two of three suspects high-tailed it into the woods.

An assault rifle and ammo were recovered from the vehicle along with one of the suspects.

Businessman Lost in Chopper Crash

(AP)  A 56 year-old Hackensack man who died in a helicopter crash on Thanksgiving was a well-known regional developer and businessman.

John Zacher died when his chopper when down into Ten Mile Lake.  His wife was able to swim to shore.  She was treated for hypothermia at a local hospital.

Zacher's body was recovered Friday near the submerged wreckage in 30 feet of water. 

Zacher was CEO of Unlimited peak, which acquires and grows Small to medium-sized companies.

Browerville Man Hospitalized follwing ATV Accident

(AP)  A 49-year-old Browerville man was rushed off to St. Cloud Hospital following a serious head injury sustain while he was operating an ATV over the weekend.

Gary Michael Polak was driving his all terrain vehicle without a helmet when he lost control and rolled.

A nursing supervisor at the hospital said he is listed in fair condition.
