2nd Wisconsin Victim Recovered From Cass Lake

Authorities have recovered the body of a second Wisconsin man who died in an apparent boating accident on Cass Lake.

Cass County sheriff's officials say the body of 52-year old Danile Kramer of Sheboygan, Wisconsin was recoverd about 11:00am Thursday morning.

The sheriff's office was called Monday about a boat circling on Cass Lake

The body of the first victim, 70-year old Delmar Thielbar of Denmark, Wisconsin, wsas located shortly afterward. 

1 Dead, 1 Missing After Boat Accident In Cass County

One Wisconsin man is dead and another is missing after a boat was found circling on Cass Lake.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office got a call about the boat on Cass Lake about 7:00pm Monday.

Authorities say the body of a 70-year old man from Denmar, Wisconsin, was found shortly thereafter.  The search continues for a second man who was in the boat.  He's described as a 52-year old from Sheboygan, Wisconsin. 

Names of the men will not be released until family members are notified.

Restoration of a Landmark Begins Again

Prep work for the rehabilitation of the wall at the historic Garrison Concourse along Highway 169 on Mille Lacs Lake resumes today after at three week government shutdown.

Crews will be dewatering to allow restoration of the outer wall facing the lake. Work requires the closure of the concourse to the public. Access to the rest area will be contained to the walleye statue and the grounds.

Stage 3 restoration work begins later this summer. The wall will be reconstructed with similar pink and black granite that was used when it was constructed in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Area Road Projects Resume

Resurfacing of Highway 371 north of Woida Road to just south of Pequot Lakes resumes on Monday, August 1 after a three week government shutdown.

Crews will be resurfacing, constructing turn lanes and repairing culverts.

Motorists will encounter weekday intermittent lane closures and be directed by flaggers when crews are in the intersection revision areas in the two lane section between Nisswa and Pequot Lakes

The project is scheduled to be completed by late August, weather permitting.

Resurfacing of Highway 10 from north of Highway 115 at Cushing to just south of the Little Falls bypass also resumes on Monday.

Crews will be resurfacing, constructing turn lanes and culvert work. Local access will be maintained.

Motorists will encounter weekday intermittent lane closures and be directed by flaggers when crews are working on the ramps.

The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-September, weather permitting.

Illegal Netting Stopped

(AP)  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has moved in to stop a ring suspected of illegally netting and selling walleye on two northern Minnesota Indian reservations.

Similar allegations have surfaced for years on Leech Lake and Lake Winnebigoshish, both of which are partly within reservation boundaries on the Leech Lake and Red Lake reservations.

Tribal members are allowed to net fish for personal consumption. 

No one has been charged yet in the operation.

Hwy 371 Project Resumes

Night work on the Highway 371 project from the railroad tracks just south of the junction with Highway 210 to Woida Road resumes this evening at 7:00 p.m. after a three-week government shutdown.

Motorists will encounter a single lane of traffic through this work zone. Crews will be installing permanent pavement markings along this 1.3 mile segment of the project. This work is scheduled to be completed by early August.

The remainder of the project, from Woida Road to just south of Crow Wing County Road 11 in Pequot Lakes will resume in early August, weather permitting.
