Budget Fix?
State officials traveled around the state this week, describing the plan to balance the budget as a good solution. Nan Madden is with an organization called the Minnesota Budget Project. She said the session-ending deal was only a short-term solution and doesn't address the spending side of the ledger at all. Senate Republicans in Brainerd yesterday said the deal leaves Minnesota with a much lower reserve fund. And if the economy doesn't turn around soon, officials expect more shortages next year. Some predict the deficit could be close to $3-Billion for the next biennium.
