Pokegama Dam Getting a Face-lift

(AP) Work began on January 6th on the Pokegama Dam, located in Grand Rapids. Renovations will include improving six existing slide gates, the removal and replacement of all wooden stop logs and existing handling system; erosion repair of one abutment wall, and more. The work is being done by Wiebolt Electric Company of Bemidji. The project is being funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and was awarded to Wiebolt by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The work is expected to continue into the Fall of 2010.
