Northern Owls Visiting the Area

Bird watchers may have something new to see this time of year, besides the typical chickadee, nuthatch or wood pecker. DNR Non Game Specialist Pam Perry says some winter owls are coming in from Canada, such as the Great Grey, Snowy and Northern Hawk owl. She says the Northern Hawk owl is a medium sized owl that acts more like a hawk than owl.

Perry says the Great Horned owl is just starting its courtship now, and should be on the nest in February.

Perry reminds taxpayers to look for the loon check-off on the tax form. Proceeds go to non game species.
