Christmas Rip-Offs

Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl says people who would spoil your holiday, are not taking a holiday.

Area lawmen continue to receive reports of emails and phone calls to the senior population reporting their grandchild is in jail and needs money.  Dahl says it is most likely bogus.

Another favorite Christmas-time rip-off involves secret shopper scams.   Fake cashiers checks sent out by money gram.  In return, the victims are asked to send money by wire or money gram.  The victims are led to believe they are employed by Walmart.

And yet another con involves legitimate homes for sale being copied from realtor's websites and placed on Craigslist for rent.  The funds are requested to be sent out of the country.
