Governor's Chances of Bagging a Deer Rated Good

Among the half million hunters zipping up the blaze orange for the whitetail rifle opener, Saturday morning, will be Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty.

He will be hosting the Governor's opener near Camp Ripley north of Little Falls.

DNR Director of Fish and Wildlife, Dave Schad, tells KLKS News, Camp Ripley is a great place to hunt.  He says the excellent habitat and limited hunting has resulted in a strong population of big deer.

Schad expects the results to be similar to those of last year. He says he will urge the next Governor to continue the tradition of the opener.

Governor Pawlenty is expected to be on stand just west of Camp Ripley at dawn.
