Good Deer Hunting Predicted

The rifle deer hunting season which begins Saturday morning, ought to be a good one, according to Brainerd Area Wildlife Supervisor Gary Drotts.  He tells KLKS news, while the numbers won't be as high as 2003, there should be good success.  Hunters in Crow Wing and lower Cass counties harvested 23 thousand whitetails in 2003.  Last year, that number was considerably less at 11 thousand.

Drotts says zones 246 and 247 in the lakes area have gone to a lottery for antlerless permits this season.

Drotts says the opener, a half hour before sunrise Saturday,  should be fun, with mild temperatures, allowing hunters to stay longer on the stand.   He says the deer have been moving around, and the bucks are acting goofy.
