Avoiding Lawn Mushrooms

These warm moist days are perfect for growing mushrooms. Often times they pop up as unwanted lawn ornaments.

K-Lakes Meteorologist Tony Schumacher says they are a fungus, and the only way to totally avoid them is to dig up and replace the soil. While few, if anyone, is going to do that, he says it is important to keep the grass healthy and thick. Also, raking up old vegetation helps, and water only once a week during morning hours.

Schumaker says over fertilizing can promote mushroom growth.
