CWC Sheriff Todd Dahl Talks About Winter Travel Conditions

Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl told K-Lakes' News that, although winter can be a fabulously fun time of year in the Lakes' area, there can also be some hazardous traveling conditions. He mentioned that morning commutes can be particularly hazardous, as temperatures are typically at their lowest right before sunrise, which can mean ice on the roadways. He said that the snow plows are out there working as quickly as they can to put down salt and sand, but extra caution is always advisable. Additionally, he mentioned that you should never assume that ice is safe--that current conditions have area lakes at anywhere from 4" to 15" of ice, but that can change rapidly. He said you should know the lake before venturing on to it. . .and check with the locals if you're not.
