Jon Hassler Art to be Auctioned

More than 30 oil and watercolor paintings by the late Jon Hassler, have been discovered in his estate and will be placed on silent auction at Central Lakes College Sunday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.
The bidding opportunity on the Brainerd campus of the community and technical college precedes the dedication of the Jon Hassler Library. The dedication ceremony begins at 2 p.m. in Chalberg Theatre.
The entire collection of the newly discovered Hassler art work is available for viewing under What's New at www.clcmn.edu/library
Proceeds from the silent auction will be added to the Jon Hassler Memorial Scholarship Fund for CLC students.
Hassler was an English and humanities instruction at then-Brainerd Community College from 1968 to 1980, and a nationally renowned Minnesota author.
He received many acknowledgements for his writings including fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation and the Minnesota State Arts Board. His novels Staggerford and Grand Opening won literary awards.
A television version of his novel "A Green Journey" was produced for NBC in 1988, staring Angela Lansbury.
He died March 20.
