Statewide St. Patrick's Day, 2005-2007, alcohol-related crashes accounted for seven of 12 traffic deaths, and another 13 serious injuries. During that same time period 1,575 impaired drivers were arrested for DWI. Each year, alcohol-related crashes account for around 200 deaths and 3000 serious injuries in Minnesota.
Sgt. Curt Mowers, of the Brainerd office of the State Patrol is urging revelers to have a plan for a safe ride home Before bellying up to the bar and ordering that pint of Guinness. He says it could cost more than a pot-o’-gold.
Anyone observing a driver they believe may be impaired is encouraged to report that driver to any police agency.
