Klobuchar Calls for a DTV Extension

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar is calling for an extension of the DTV deadline.
The government has run out of $40 coupons to be used to buy converter boxes, which would allow older analog TVs to receive digital signals after February 17th.
Klobuchar says more than 21 percent of Minnesota households depend exclusively on free over-the-air broadcast TV, and that number could rise as cable and satellite services become too expensive during the economic downturn. Unless done right, millions could be without television on February 18th.
Tony WilHelm, of the National Telecommunications Information Administration is encouraging consumers to get on a waiting list and apply for the coupon. He tells KLKS News, when getting a converter box, make sure it has the analog pass-through feature.
Wilhelm says cable and satellite companies are pressuring consumers to subscribe to their service to solve the digital issue. He says with an inexpensive converter box, that extra cost become unnecessary.
