Rodriquez Requests New Trial

(AP)  Alfonzo Rodriguez Junior wants a new trial or a new sentencing hearing.

The Crookston man is on death row for the 2003 stabbing death of Dru Sjodine of Pequot Lakes.  Sjodine was a student at the University of North Dakota at the time of the crime.

Rodriguez claims his lawyer should have raised an insanity defense, and recoginized that he is "metally retarded."

Federal prosecutors says they want their own experts to evaluate Rodriguez who is being held in an Indiana prison.
