Rudy Hillig Passes Away

Rudy Hillig has died at his home today at the age of 87.

Rudy was widely known and beloved by those in horticultural circles.  He founded the Northland Arboretum and served as its director for 14 years.  If there was a question about plants in the Brainerd Lakes Area, Rudy had the answer.

Hillig moved to Brainerd in 1965 to teach vocational retail floral.  He had an interesting past including a short stint on the professional wrestling circuit with Vern Gagne.

The City of Brainerd Proclaimed Rudy Hillig Day on May 13th, 2010.

Arrangements are pending with Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
