Welcome Home Ceremony Sunday for Brainerd Soldiers
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar will be in Brainerd on Sunday to welcome home 131 members of the Army Reserve’s 309th Engineer Company, who are returning home from their deployment in Afghanistan.
The Company was stationed for one year with Marines at Camp Leatherneck located north of Kandahar in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, where their mission was route clearance to ensure the safe travel of convoys. During their deployment, they cleared nearly 200 roadside bombs (IED’s or Improvised Explosive Devices) and responded to more than 100 enemy attacks.
The welcome home ceremony will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
The unit will receive Welcome Home Warrior Citizen Awards There will also be presentations of 5 Bronze Star Medals, 4 Purple Hearts, 1 Combat Action Badge and 6 Army Commendation Medals.
