Channel 14 to Lose KARE 11
The KARE 11 signal from the Twin Cities will be leaving free over-the-air TV in the Brainerd Lakes Area.
The NBC programming from the Gannett station has been carried on channel 14 out of Breezy Point since the spring of 1995.
The channel 14 license is owned by Lakes Broadcasting Group.
Company President Bob Bundgaard said, “The service that KARE has provided to the Lakes Area has been invaluable. This is business decision made by Gannett, and while we are disappointed to see them go, we understand they have to do what is best for their company.”
While the free over-the-air TV service will be missed, KARE 11 programming will still be found on subscription cable and satellite TV.

That's a shame. It was nice to have an NBC affilaite available while camping in the area. While FOX, ABC and CBS are still available, there hasn't been a full service NBC signal since KCMT/KNMT (KCCO/KCCW) switched to CBS 35 years ago. Perhaps a deal could be struck with a Duluth or Fargo affiliate.
This is a disgrace. Many of us in Northern Minnesota can't afford Satellite TV and don't have access to cable. Our only link to entertainment is over the air TV and now we lose NBC! Thanks Gannett you made 151 million in the last quarter, doubled your dividend, can afford to buy back your stock yet you cant afford to allow us to watch NBC in North Central Minnesota. Disgusting!
