Cravaack Justifies Vote
Congressman Chip Cravaack released the following statement on his vote for H.Con.Res. 34, which establishes the budget for the federal government for Fiscal Year 2012.
“If recent history has shown us anything it is that Washington spends too much, not that Americans are taxed too little. This budget begins the task of reining in the massive deficits we have seen over the last few years and it puts us on a path to pay down our debt in the long term. It cuts $6.2 trillion in government spending over the next decade alone, and it does so without raising taxes.
Tom McMahon, Executive Director, Americans United for Change says all eyes are on 8th District Congressman. McMahon says Cravaack is irresponsibly giving trillions of dollars in additional tax breaks for millionaires and big corporations at the same time it ending Medicare and Medicaid as we know them and asks Minnesota seniors, children and people with disabilities to shoulder more burden in the form of dramatically higher premiums and less care.
McMahon says, “There is nothing courageous or responsible about the Republicans in Congress who are asking millions of seniors, the less fortunate and the disabled to make more sacrifices and the richest among us make less. If they have their way, there would be no more guaranteed Medicare benefits for Minnesota seniors, only a guarantee of paying more and more out of pocket for less care after being left to the mercy to the private insurance industry.
