Tax Filing Season is Underway
W-2's and 1099's are required to be in the mail by today for the tax filing season.
If you haven't gotten them, you may want to give your employer and financial institutions a couple of days for them to arrive in the mail, according to IRS regional spokesperson Sue Hales.
Taxpayers have an extra weekend to file their 2010 tax returns and pay any tax due, because Emancipation Day in Washington D.C. falls on April 15th. Returns now must be postmarked no later than Monday, April 18th.
Nearly 75 percent of all taxpayers received a refund. Last year, the average refund was approximately $2,900.
