The Ice is Beginning to Sing

There are ways to enjoy the forming ice, other than to risk venturing out on to it. Grand Rapids DNR Public Information Officer Jean Goad says just listen. You can hear the ice twang and splash as the ice gets thicker.

Goad says 4 inches of ice is needed to support people. It can be measured using an ice auger, ice chisel or cordless drill.
