Underage Drinking Charges in Grand Rapids

Three young adults have been charged with felonies in connection with a fatal car accident that happened after a night of drinking in Grand Rapids. Christy Lynn Laney died in the crash on August 6. The 18-year old was in the back seat of a vehicle that rolled over on County Road 61 in Itasca County. The other four people in the car survived. 19-year old Jena Marie Doyle and 18-year old Kyle Robert Fuller were passengers in the car. They have been charged with felony aiding and abetting furnishing alcohol to minors. Court documents say they told police that 22-year old Justin Lee Leppanen bought the alcohol for them. Leppanen has been charged with one count of felony and three gross misdemeanor aiding and abetting furnishing alcohol to a minor.
