Akeley Pays a $55 Thousand Award

The city of Akeley has awarded $55 thousand to a woman who claimed police failed to investigate a sexual assault by a sheriff's deputy. The woman initially filed a $2 million lawsuit in May against the city, its police chief, an Akeley officer, Hubbard County and the accused deputy.

The city has admitted no wrong-doing in making the award.

No criminal charges have been filed against the deputy, who has resigned from the sheriff's department.
