Carlson Backs Voter I.D.</title><summary type='text'>State Senator John Carlson of Bemidji supports a Voter I.D. constitutional amendment on the fall ballot.  

A hearing on the amendment will be held at the state capitol today.  Among those testifying against the amendment is the League of Women Voters.  Senator Carlson tells KLKS News, they are not a non partisan group.  He says the League along with AARP are left-leaning.

(AP) — It's a "go" for one of Minnesota's largest ice fishing tournaments.

Officials for the Brainerd Jaycees' $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza have been issued a permit for the Feb. 11 event.

Crow Wing County sheriff's officials checked ice conditions on Gull Lake Thursday and found the ice was consistently past the minimum requirement of 16 inches to issue the permit.

During the construction of an addition to the Pamida store in 1988, the skeletal remains of 22 people were uncovered.  The remains were determined to be those of Dakota Sioux.  Elders said they should be reburied where they were found.

Police say the man entered the store brandishing a handgun and demanding money.

The Long Prairie Volunteer Fire department got the call just before 3 p.m.  By the time they got to the house at 22697 Gate Way Drive, it was fully engulfed.

The house was unoccupied.

The body of 62-year-old Allen Skiple was found outside the Sanford Center earlier this week.  

Police Chief Mike Mastin said they found no evidence of of a crime.  He said there was no indication of injury.

Mike Snyder purchased two tickets in the MN Millionaire Raffle.  He won.  

Snyder said he always bought just one ticket, figuring his chances were as good as anyone.  He also figured, one of the smaller prizes would be fine too.  His winning number was drawn on New Years Day.

The sheriff's office was called early Sunday to the fire in the Chickamaw Beach area.  No one was hurt in the fire.

The Todd County Sheriff's Office says Maryann Biskey was found about a quarter mile from her residence Thursday afternoon.  The incident is under investigation.

Biskey had been reported missing Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff Todd Dahl says several holes were drilled in the area Thursday where the tournament is to be held. The ice was consistently in the 11 inch range.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced today it will publish a final delisting rule in the Federal Register on Dec. 28. After a 30-day period, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will reassume management of this species.

Craig Rye died when his vehicle rolled on top of him while he was attempting to descend a steep hill.  His passenger, 21-year-old Erik Rye of Shepard, Montana was seriously injured.

So far, $70 thousand has been raised.  Captain Strissel hopes the final week of the drive will see them reach their $117 thousand.  He says there has been great generosity locally, even though they haven't found any diamond rings at the bottom of the kettles.
